Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19)

Currently, there is no vaccine and no specific antiviral medicine for novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) while it continues to spread deeper into California communities. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been widely applied (91.5% of total cases) in the prevention and treatment of COVID-19 patients in China. Preliminary results have shown that for patients with mild conditions, usage of TCM alone was sufficient to reduce fever, symptoms and viral loads to the extent that 90% of patients did not progress to severe stages and could soon be deemed as “recovered.”

Perhaps due to the spread of TCM’s COVID-19 success stories in China, recently, the demand for Chinese herbs has been reported to have surged in cities in the United States, leading to shortages. As an integrative medicine organization, UCLA Center for East-West medicine aims to to improve health, well being, and the quality of life of people by blending the best of Modern Western medicine with Traditional Chinese Medicine to provide healthcare that is safe, effective, affordable and accessible. Therefore, in order to avoid the misuse of these proven Chinese medicine modalities for COVID-19, we plan to organize and share readily available information from five different sources below*:
