New Approaches to Understand the Mindful Brain

Individuals who practice mindful meditation have less overall anxiety and less pain-related anxiety.

Bruce Naliboff, Ph.D is a Co-Director of the UCLA Center for Neurobiology of Stress. Mindful awareness training does not lead to a quiet brain but instead increases coherence and consistency of function, states Dr. Nabiloff. These changes are maintained whether one consciously trying to be mindful or not. This may explain the reported improvement in well-being associated with meditation.
