September 29, 2013: Dr. Malcolm Taw on “Treatment of Sinusitis with Integrative East-West Medicine”

This course will introduce otolaryngologists to acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine in the management of the difficult to treat chronic sinusitis patient. We will present results of our pilot study utilizing an integrative East-West medicine approach, which shows promising potential for treatment of recalcitrant sinusitis. The format will be didactic and include digital slides, video, and live demonstrations.

October 2, 2013: Dr. Malcolm Taw on Integrative Approach to Atypical Facial Pain and Headache

West Ballroom A, Vancouver Convention Centre: 8:00 AM – 9:20 AM

The otolaryngologist may frequently deal with patients who present with atypical facial pain and headache, with no obvious anatomic, infectious, or inflammatory etiology. Such patients are challenging and require a multidisciplinary approach for diagnosis and treatment. In this miniseminar, we will review the definition, differential diagnosis, work-up, and treatment recommendations for patients with atypical facial pain and headache. An integrative approach to the management of atypical facial pain will be outlined, including role for surgery, pharmacotherapy, complementary/alternative methods and lifestyle changes. Challenging cases will be presented to the panel of experts for discussion.
